I guess I'm not a very good blogger, am I?
Well, a lot has happened in the Jahn household. Nothing major, so don't get too excited.
We are slowly getting settled in to our new home. Our garage is still stuffed full of who knows what that needs to be unpacked or given a permanent home. Once we get that major task tackled we can set up the bowflex and elliptical!
Lucas is now 6 months old and the proud owner of his first tooth! I will always remember his first tooth, because I discovered it on Thanksgiving morning! I was getting the kids ready to go to grandma and grandpa Jahn's for Thanksgiving, when I noticed his bottom gum looked a little white in one spot. I felt, and sure enough, 1 little tooth had made its way through. I was totally not expecting this, as his sister didn't sprout teeth until at least 10 months (I will have to break out her baby book to see exactly when). It totally explains the cranky clingy baby I've experienced for the past few days, though. Seriously, mama walks out of the room and his whole world falls apart! Poor baby :(
He's also *almost* sitting up on his own. He's still pretty wobbily, but he can sit unassisted for a few seconds at least. Crawling will also be coming soon, I suspect. He gets up on his knees, and he scoots, but that's about it. I really wish he'd stop growing so darn fast!
We've had a lot of drama with Alayna's kindergarten teacher, and she's actually being placed in another classroom begining Monday. I'm very nervous for her, but I'm sure she will handle the change just fine. Her first teacher was just not a great fit for us. I'm not sure if it was US, or if other families are having issues also and just don't know any better... but we are very unpleased. I don't want to place 100% of the blame on her, because I'm sure our unorganization at the beginning of the year because of our move, as well as Scott being....well...."Scott" for lack of a better way to put it, played a part in the all around horrible experience. However, we TRIED to communicate what was going on with our lives, and we made every effort I thought possible to make sure things were taken care of, and the teacher just didn't want to communicate back or understand I guess. Regardless, she's being moved, and I am really hoping that this is a better fit for all of us.
Scott is still working 70 hours a week, give or take a few (mostly give). It's really tough on him, but it's also very tough on us. His presence around the home is almost non-existent, and when he IS present he's not very productive. I am trying to be better about understanding, but it can be pretty frustrating when I only ask that he accomplish a very small list of things I need him to do, and that rarely happens. Our relationship has done an almost complete 180, though, and both of us are working pretty hard on that.
My new part time schedule is working out wonderfully. It's a little stressfull still because we are still not fully staffed and operating at 100% but we're close. It's still difficult to try to complete just as much work in less time, however I'm getting more of a routine established so I do see a light at the end of the tunnel.
SEE, I told you nothing too exciting has happened.......I'll see what we can do about that ;)

Honey, we're HOME!
We've made it! We are (mostly) moved in to our new house! There are still a few more things that need to be brought over from the storage unit, and a LOT of unpacking to do, but it's getting there and finally starting to feel like home. Unpacking has been FUN (totally being sarcastic!). I'm finding out that I don't have enough room for all of this CRAP. I keep finding more and more stuff, mostly for the kitchen, that I don't know what in the world I'm going to do with. Hmmm.. Oct 2 is our neighborhood wide yard sale... great idea. Now just finding things that I can part with, because I have that "what if I MIGHT need it again" mentality and I want to hold on to things.
Well, that's pretty much what's going on around here. I'm beyond exhausted and achy and ready for bed. JUST in time for lil man to wake up of course!!

What NOT to do at your Drs office!
DO NOT come into the office on your cell phone, talking to the receptionist at said office on your phone AND at the window, stating that you have been holding for 7 minutes but you're at the office now. If you're at the office now then you obvioulsy see how busy it is.
DO NOT start complaining about how long you waited on hold as soon as the receptionist picks up the phone... chances are there is someone else on hold and taking 2 mintues to rant about how long YOU were on hold just means that the other person on hold has to wait 2 more minutes... and the cycle continues. Please just tell us what you need and end the convo!
DO NOT call 5 times in a 30 minute span to ask if the Dr has responed to your message yet. We will call you back when she does. Until then, please stop thinking you are the ONLY patient there.
DO NOT flip your lid and yell at the receptionist when she lets you know you have a balance, especially a 3 dollar balance. We do understand your frustration that your insurance did not cover the entire claim, but WE are not your insurance company. We don't mind you asking questions, calmly.
DO NOT run your Dr or their staff down in the parking lot, the store, or anywhere outside of the office to talk about your medical needs. If we aren't IN the office, then chances are we aren't on the clock, and chances are we cannot answer your questions without looking at your chart, which obviously isn't right in front of us.
DO NOT atuomatically think it is the doctors/staffs fault that you aren't being seen at exactly your appointment time. Each appointment is allotted a certain amount of time, and it is very possible that one or two or maybe even more patients held the doctor up longer then expected (probably complaining about having to wait too long).
DO NOT come to the office before we open or after we are closed and BANG on the door. And if we do not answer your rudeness DO NOT take it upon yourself to go around to the back door.
DO NOT tell us you missed your appointment because you were on a cruise, and then tell us that you do not have the money to pay your copay.
DO NOT treat the office staff or the doctors like shit. Chances are one day we could be YOUR customer, and I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate being treated like shit.
Thank you, have a nice day!

Simple Honesty
Scott and I along with our munchkins were at Walmart in YC this evening getting keys copied for our new home. While waiting to check out in the home and garden area the customer in front of us dropped some cash on the ground. Scott noticed it and chased him out of the store to give it back to him. He came back inside, paid for the keys, and then we all walked out together. The gentleman that dropped the money was waiting for us at the doors and handed Scott the money that he had dropped. Scott of course declined the money and the guy said to please take it because it made his night knowing that there are still honest people out there. I agree.. this day and age finding someone that is truely honest is hard.. but to be quite honest (pun intended) neither Scott nor I thought twice about returning the money. The gentleman insisted we take the money, so Scott finally did, and handed it straight to me and we both agreed to put it in the church offering plate on Sunday. We made his night by our honesty, and he made our night by his appreciation!

Has it REALLY been 4 months?
Lucas is 4 months old!!! How the heck did 4 months pass by? It seriously feels like I JUST had him. He officially turned 4 months old 4 days ago... but he had his 4 month well baby check today. I kinda figured he was going through a growth spurt over the last few weeks, because he's been eating like a lil pig, and he weighed in at a whopping 12lbs 11oz! Dr Deena said he's perfect! She told us we should be starting him on solid foods... but I'm not so sure he's (rather I'm) ready for that yet. I was aiming more for 6 months! I just cannot believe the time has gone by so quickly. Where have I been? OH yeah... working.... BUT.... I just got approval from my boss to drop down to PART TIME!!!!! Starting the week of 10/10 I will no longer be working full time. It's only dropping about 10 hours of my schedule a week, but that is 10 more hours I will be able to spend with my kids! I am beyond excited and extremely thankful that they are letting me do this!
To add to the excitement today... we got the keys to our new home! What a blessing in disguise this whole drama has been. Our new landlord is wonderful and we couldn't be happier with our situation. I am just ready to get back into a somewhat normal/regular routine. I have an amazing friend who has offered up her spare bedroom to me for the past few weeks, and I appreciate that more than she will ever know, but I am ready to be back in my comfort zone! And I know Scott and the kids agree. This has been a very stressful past month and the light at the end of the tunnel is SO close!!!
Today has been a great day!

Downshift
Today was definately a Monday. I called Scott on my lunch break to check in on how the move was going. The first thing he says is "You're not going to be happy". Ooohhh NO! I figured he would tell me that he hadn't started moving the stuff from the storage unit into our new house... because that's a typical Scott thing to do. NOPE. He tells me that he's trying to get out of the lease that we signed. He said that the agent for the house we were renting was acting like it was an inconvenience for her to meet up with him to give him the keys today. HELLO... we signed a lease 2 weeks ago stating that at 12:01 am we took possesion of the house. Not 3pm, not tomorrow... TODAY the 13th. Scott had been trying to call her all week last week and all weekend to set up a time for him to get the keys and pay the deposit/rent. She never returned any of the calls. He finally called ReMax office today and gave someone there a message to have her call back. He said that when she finally called back she told him that she doesn't return phone calls on Sundays because that is her day off. Well, that's fine, but what about the 5 other days we tried calling last week. Anyway, so Scott was angry and being that we JUST got out of a crappy rental situation he didn't like the look of how this was going. If she's unavailable or inconvenienced to take our money and give us the keys to the property then what happens if something needs to be repaired, are we going to be able to get in touch with her? Probably not. Scott ended up calling the broker she works under and he agreed that she was being rediculous and he told us we could opt out of the lease since no monies had been exchanged yet. So, instead of moving in to our new home today we spent the evening looking at a NEW place to live. I'm pretty upset. We started Alayna at Kiln Creek Elementary, we had our mail forwarded, we had our electric and water forwarded... everything was ready for our move. Downshift time...
Luckily, Scott had called a guy a few weeks back when we were still looking to rent something, who owns a similar home on the other side of the neigborhood from the one we signed a lease on. He was on his way home from a cruise in Atlanta and said yes it was still available and he will match what we were going to be paying at the other place (he was origionally asking for $45 more/month). He called Scott at 4 like he promised, literally STILL in the airport from returning to Newport News, and agreed to meet us at 6 to look at the place. We took a look, and even though it's not as nice as the other place was (all very minor details) we liked it and agreed to sign a lease. He told us where his office was (he is an orthodontist in Newport News) and said if we wanted to we could sign the lease tonight. So... we did! With Monday being the only good day for Scott to move we will have to wait until next Monday to move everything... but he is even going to give us the keys tomorrow! I'm glad everything has worked out. This new landlord seems like he will be very easy to work with, and after the HELL that we have been through over the last 2 years we reeeeally need that!!

My first blog
What's going on with the Jahn Quad? Well.....
We officially became a quad on 05/10/10 when our son Lucas decided to make his grand enterance into the world. We were formerly a trio... Mr Scott, myself, and our beautiful spitfire Alayna Grace.
Alayna just started Kindergarten. How in the world did 5 years pass by so quickly? My little girl should NOT be 5! Well, ready or not, she started elementary school. The first week went by with no major issues, and I even let her walk to her class by herself on Friday. Miss independent. Yes, I cried. Is just so hard to believe she's so big!
Lucas just turned 4 months old. He's a smiley drooly babbling mess! He definately just went through a growth spurt. I swear the kid must have gained 5lbs in the last 2 weeks. We will see for sure at his well baby check on Tuesday.
Scott is a culinary manager at Ruby Tuesday. He loves the company, however the store he is currently at he can't say he's happy with. His schedule is a 50 hr work week, and he usually ends up staying 1-3 hrs past his out time on a daily basis, therefore making his work week 60-70 hrs! It is very stressful on all of us. Sometimes we go a few days without even seeing him at all.
I am an office assistant at a local doctor's office. I just asked if I could drop down to part time hours, so I can be more of a help at home. With Scott working such long days, everything else gets left up to me, and after working a regular 40 hr week I am not to thrilled to come home and clean all weekend. If I'm not allowed to work part time where I am, then I will be saying goodbye to the company I have been with for almost 3 yrs, and will probably end up going back to the restaurant business where I can work 2 or 3 days a week and make as much take home as I do now.
We are MOVING. Suprise! If you have known Scott and I... then you obviously know we've moved a total of 7 times in the nearly 9 yrs we've been together. We are moving into Kiln Creek. Great neighborhood with a great elementary school. This move has by far taken a toll on Scott and I. You truely never know how much CRAP you have until you have to move all of it! My goodness! The light is there, ya know, the one at the end of the tunnel. We will be settled into our new home very soon. Unfortunately, though, we won't be there for longer than a year unless the owner decides to sell, because we are wanting to buy soon.
That about wraps up what is currently going on in the lives of the Jahn Quad. I am looking forward to sharing our adventures with those who are interested :)
